Alaskan Malamute
One of the oldest Arctic sled dogs, the Malamute was bred by the Mahlemut Inuit people to haul heavy loads over long distances. Built for power and endurance, they are the heaviest of the arctic breeds.

Active Lifestyle
Arctic breeds need at least one to two hours of vigorous exercise every day. They were bred to run for miles in freezing conditions. A short daily walk will not be enough to keep them happy or well-behaved.
Space to Run
A securely fenced yard is strongly recommended. These dogs have a strong prey drive and wandering instinct. They are natural escape artists and should never be left unsupervised in an unfenced area.
Time and Commitment
These breeds thrive on human connection and consistent training. They require a patient, experienced owner who understands their independent nature and is committed to ongoing training and socialization.
